EV Charging Installation in Norfolk

EV charging

Home EV charging with solar-aware options.

Charging at home means no more planning journeys around public chargers, which matters across a county where distances can be long. Add solar and a battery and the car becomes part of the same system, using your own generation when it is available.

Enquiring is free and implies no obligation. Payment options where you qualify.

Solar-aware charging

Let the car use your own roof first.

Set up properly, a smart charger and compatible inverter will send the car your spare solar first and only use the grid to fill the gap.

If solar or a battery is already on the property, we check how it would work with a charger before recommending one, rather than defaulting to a single model.

Rural and outbuilding installs

Where the charger goes matters.

Out in the countryside the charger often goes on a garage or barn wall, some distance from the house. Cable length and route alter the job, so we plot them at the survey and the proposal shows what the run involves.

If you plan to buy an EV in the next few years, say so at the start. It can change how much generation and storage the home needs, and it is easier to design in than to work around later.

Tariffs

Scheduled charging and cheaper hours.

If you are on a smart tariff, the charger can be scheduled for the cheaper hours as well as picking up surplus solar by day. How much that saves depends on your tariff, and we talk it through.

Grants

What the grant covers today.

The EV Chargepoint Grant currently covers 75% of the cost of a home charger, up to £500, but it has been restricted to renters, flat owner-occupiers and leaseholders, and landlords installing for tenants since 2022 (the £500 cap itself is an April 2026 increase from £350). Homeowners in a standard house are no longer eligible. We'll confirm what, if anything, applies to your situation as part of your proposal.

Finance for the wider project, including any qualifying route with nothing upfront, can be discussed once your proposal is ready.

Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval. The installation team behind Norfolk Solar acts as a credit broker, not a lender. Asking about payment options is not a finance application and won't affect your credit file.

The installation

What the install needs.

A dedicated circuit

The charger gets its own circuit from your consumer unit, and the cabling is included in the install.

Consumer unit capacity

If your existing unit has no spare room, we flag it, and any extra work, before you commit.

A safe cable route

A way to reach the car from the house without crossing a public footpath.

Somewhere to park

Off-street space is common across much of Norfolk, and we confirm your property at the survey.

Common questions

EV charging questions, answered.

Can my solar panels charge my car?

They can, with the right charger and inverter. Many smart chargers will take only surplus solar, so the car tops up when the panels are producing more than the house needs.

Tethered or untethered?

Tethered means the cable lives on the unit and you just plug in. Untethered means a socket that takes the lead supplied with your car. Charging speed is the same, so it is convenience against a tidier wall.

How fast is home charging?

The usual home charger is 7kW, which puts back about 25 to 30 miles of range per hour. Filling a 60kWh battery from flat takes 8 to 10 hours, so most people simply charge overnight.

Can I fit one without a driveway?

The question is whether a cable can reach the car from the house without crossing a public footpath. Every property differs, so we look at it during the survey.
