Savings and payment
How much could I save?

A blanket percentage would be misleading, because savings depend on the roof, the system and how the household uses electricity. Whatever you consume straight from the panels is something you do not buy, and a battery can increase that share. Your roof check works the figures out for your actual property.

Is the full cost due upfront?

No. Alongside paying outright, qualifying customers can ask about monthly payment and no-upfront-cost routes, and selected short-term 0% offers may be available from time to time. Finance is subject to status, affordability and lender approval, and the installation team acts as a credit broker, not a lender.

Does asking about payment options affect my credit file?

Asking about payment options is not a finance application and does not affect your credit file.

What happens after I send my details?

Someone considers whether the property looks suitable and may contact you to clear up points. A surveyor then visits to examine the roof, any shading and the wiring, followed by a proposal covering expected generation, warranties and payment routes. Nothing is committed by asking.

Roofs, outbuildings and ground
Is ground-mounted solar an option?

On bigger plots, frequently. When the house roof is small, shaded or awkward, a ground array may be more sensible, and Norfolk's level, open land helps. We confirm at survey what is right, bearing in mind planning rules in designated areas.

Can an outbuilding be used?

Often. Outbuildings such as garages, barns and workshops can host panels if the roof is sound and well exposed, and we look at condition, orientation and the connection to your supply.

What about long cable runs?

A long run changes the job. We work out the route at survey and put its cost in the proposal.

Can panels go on a thatched or pantile roof?

Thatch cannot take panels directly, so a ground array or an outbuilding roof is usually the answer. Traditional pantile roofs are fine, but they need mounting brackets matched to the S-shaped profile, which we check at every survey.

Do solar panels still work on dull days and in winter?

They do. Panels respond to daylight, not only direct sun, so they keep producing under cloud, just less. Winter output is lower and summer higher, which is why we judge a system on a full year.

Battery storage
Is battery storage worth adding?

That hinges on timing. Where most of the household's power is used after the panels stop, a battery keeps daytime generation instead of exporting it. Your proposal works out whether that stacks up.

Can a battery be fitted to panels I already own?

Usually. In most cases a battery can go in alongside existing panels without replacing them, as long as the inverter and setup are compatible, and we check that first.

Can I have a battery without solar?

Yes. Off-peak grid power can fill it, and it then supplies the home at peak prices, though payback is usually quicker with solar.

Does a battery keep the power on during an outage?

No, not unless it was designed for it. Backup is a matter of how the battery, inverter and wiring are specified, so say early if you want it.

EV charging
Can my solar panels charge my car?

Yes. With a suitable charger and inverter, surplus solar goes to the car first. There is more on our EV charging page.

Are there grants available for EV chargers?

The EV Chargepoint Grant currently covers 75% of the cost up to £500, but it has been restricted to renters, flat owner-occupiers and leaseholders, and landlords installing for tenants since 2022 (the £500 cap itself is an April 2026 increase from £350). Homeowners in a standard house are no longer eligible.

Planning
Do I need planning permission in Norfolk?

Generally not, as most home installs are permitted development. Part of the Norfolk coast lies in the Norfolk Coast National Landscape, where tighter rules may call for permission that would not be needed elsewhere. The Norfolk planning guide has the detail.
